Are your products suitable to use when pregnant or nursing?

If you're pregnant or nursing, be sure to check the icon on the product page to ensure that it's safe for you to use.

Retinoids are derivatives of a Vitamin A and are used in many cosmetics and skincare products. However, when pregnant or nursing, it's recommended to stop using products containing high concentrations of Retinoids. This is a precaution that arose from studies that have shown when taking the prescription drug called, “Roaccutane,” which is Vitamin A in pill form, poses a risk to the developing baby.

Therefore, during pregnancy and while nursing it’s better to avoid products with retinol or retinoids in it.

When pregnant or nursing avoid using the following items;

An active ingredient called Bakuchiol has been found to provide similar properties to Retinol. Bakuchiol Complete and Alt-A help to improve skin tone and texture, promote healthy cell growth and decrease lines.

VIVATIA Repair Retinol 0.5% Retinol and Brighten which contains 2% Hydroquinone is also not suitable to use when pregnant or nursing.

What is a good mask for Acne?

If you're struggling with breakouts, you're not alone. Acne is one of the most common skin concerns, affecting people of all ages. But there's good news: there are plenty of effective treatments available. One option is to use a mask. A mask can help to soothe inflammation and kill bacteria, two factors that can contribute to breakouts. Using a mask once a week can help to treat existing breakouts and prevent new ones from forming. For best results, try a mask that contains both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredients. You can also apply the mask as a spot treatment to target specific blemishes. If you're looking for a mask that meets these criteria, try CosMedix Clear mask.

How do CosMedix chirally correct formulations benefit the skin?

When it comes to skincare, chirally correct formulations are four times more effective than traditional products. This means that you need to use far less product to see visible improvements in your skin. Not only does this provide value for money, but it also means that the product lasts longer. Chirally correct formulations are made up of molecules that mirror those found naturally in the skin. As a result, they are better able to penetrate the skin and target specific concerns. If you're looking for a skincare product that provides results without breaking the bank, chirally correct is the way to go.

What is the difference between CosMedix retinoids, Retinol AGP and LG-Retinex?

Retinol AGP Complex

Retinol is a Retinoid (Vitamin A derivative) that is widely used in skincare products due to its ability to improve the appearance of pigmentation, lines and health Acne or Rosacea skin. However, retinol can be difficult to deliver into the deeper skin layer called the, “Stratum Basal”, where it must convert to Trans Retinoic Acid to be effective. This is where Arabinogalactan Protein (AGP Complex) comes in.

AGP Complex is a delivery mechanism that helps retinol to penetrate the skin more effectively, so that it can reach the womb of the skin cells and convert into Trans Retinoic Acid. This process helps to improve the overall appearance of the skin, making it smoother and more youthful looking. As a result, AGP Complex is an essential ingredient in any retinol-based skincare product.

LG-Retinex

CosMedix's proprietary GAG-enhanced encapsulation of Retinol and Retinaldehyde provides maximum strength skin renewal, without the typical irritation experienced with most Retinoids. The delivery mechanism, Phospholipids, helps protect the molecules from oxidation. Glycosaminoglcans (GAG) help transport retinol and retinal to correct skin cell receptor sites. This allows for better age defiance and hydration conversion within the skin. As a result, CosMedix products provide better results without the harsh side effects.

If you experience tightness after cleansing start with using a product made with LG-Retinex such as Serum 16 or Serum 24. X-Cell+ provides a combination of retinoid and skin brightening peptide in one product. The feeling of tightness after cleansing indicates that the barrier function is disrupted and the skin’s tolerance to using stimulating ingredients is poor. As a result the application of your routine needs to be baby-stepped. By using a product made with LG-Retinex you will also gain the benefit of hydrating properties that tackle the root causes of dryness.

Anyone with a sensitised skin that is Rosacea (inflamed and dry) should also start with Serum 16 or Serum 24. The preference for Rosacea skin is to start with Serum 24. The application of Serum 16 or 24 can also be tailored to suit your skin type.

If you don’t notice any tightness immediately after cleansing and feel no need to apply a moisturiser daily, start with using a product made with Retinol AGP Complex. Define 2% Retinol AGP Complex also combines purified AHAs which will enhance penetration and results. This complex of acids; L-lactic, L-Tartaric and L-Malic also condition the skin and increase the number of hydrating ceramides. Define is more effective than Serum 16 for tackling pigmentation and Melasma. The application of Define can also be tailored to suit your skin type.

How does Anteage MD (white packaging) differ to AnteAge (green packaging)?

AnteAge MD is a newer brand that's usually only sold in clinics. We stock the same version that's used in the USA in white packaging not the regular salon version sold in Europe in green packaging. https://anteage.com/pages/about-us The brand state on their website that the formulations are cruelty free however, I can't see that they have registered with any organisations. This may be as it is not typically sold online or in shops and it's not yet necessary. It's still a new brand that's just recently expanded. You can contact the company to get further clarification.

What is the difference between AnteAge Micro Needling Kit and The System (serum no. 1 and no. 2)?

AnteAge MD formulations have regenerative properties by utilising Stem and Growth Factor Cytokines derived from human bone marrow. The System which includes two products (Serum & Accelerator) are used in combination daily and last for approximately twelve weeks. The Serum is made with growth factors and the Accelerator has 21 different ingredients Human Bone Marrow Stem Cell Conditioned Media, Vitamins C, E, and Bakuchiol (retinol alternative).

The Micro Needling Kit is an at home treatment system, that comprises of a micro needling roller 0.25 mm and five vials of growth factors solution (liquid). Use one vial of growth factors per treatment. A treatment can be done every two weeks or if you have Melasma once per week.

What are your recommendations for starting a routine on a budget of £100.00 or less?

When it comes to skincare, we all want what's best for our skin. But sometimes, budget constraints can get in the way of getting the best possible care. Enter corrective homecare plans. These skincare regimens provide the active ingredients that regenerate the skin by stimulating an increase in skin cell renewal and repair. This helps restore a normal barrier function and increases natural moisture.Corrective homecare plans also help reduce overactive immune response that's involved in sensitised and Rosacea skin. In other words, it's a process that involves removing the old damaged cells to make way for new, healthy cells. As a result, you end up with better-looking, healthier skin. So if you're looking for a way to improve your skincare routine without breaking the bank, consider a corrective homecare plan. It just might be the best investment you ever make.

CosMedix Starter kits are available RRP £44.00 and comprise of four items which have been discounted already. Invest in a cleanser, retinoid and multi-purpose SPF. If you don’t already do so also wear mineral makeup that has SPF which really helps with healing Acne, Rosacea and is water and sweat proof.

When it comes to optimising your skincare routine, the first step is always elimination. If you're using a bunch of different products, streamlining your routine will provide the best results and help keep costs down. Sometimes all you need to do is make better use of the products you already have. In most cases, the best place to start is with a cleanser that contains l-lactic acid. This will give your skin a boost and enhance the results of any other products you use. So, if you're looking to streamline your skincare routine, start by eliminating any superfluous products and making sure you're using the right cleanser. Your skin will thank you for it!

  • During the day wear a multi-purpose sunscreen that also doubles up as a hydrating product.
  • When on a budget it’s not necessary to use additional plumping serums such as Hyaluronic Acid or even separate Antioxidants.

When it comes to skincare, consistency is key. This is especially true if you're using a product that contains a retinoid. Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A and have been shown to be effective in treating a variety of skin concerns, from wrinkles to acne. However, they can also cause dryness and irritation, which is why it's important to use them correctly. Applying a corrective product that contains a retinoid every night is a good way to avoid these side effects. Using an encapsulated retinoid can also help, as it allows you to get all the benefits without any of the risks. So if you're looking to improve your skin, make sure you're using a retinoid-based product on a regular basis.

  • CosMedix retinoids are encapsulated and can be used close to the eyes around the eye bone. This means that you don’t need to purchase a separate eye product.
  • Once a week carry out an at home facial using a mask.

I am undergoing treatment for hair removal using a laser device or have facial waxing done , shall I wait before starting my Retinoid?

Prior to having any facial waxing or laser treatment, stop using your Retinoid for 72 hours. The product can be resumed as normal 24 hours post treatment. Avoid using exfoliating masks or any products containing Salicylic acid on the day of treatment and up to 72 hours post. Always wear a mineral sunscreen and re-apply on a regular basis, every two hours. When outdoors and in direct sunlight also wear a hat.

If you do experience any irritation post facial waxing, use CosMedix Rescue balm and Elite Relief gel to calm and heal the area.

Is it mandatory to apply sunblock daily?

Whatever their age or personal skin concern, we encourage everyone to use a broad spectrum, UVA & UVB protection, on the areas of their body which are most regularly exposed:

  1. Use sunscreen everyday (particularly on your face, neck and hands)
  2. Yes, that’s every day: even when it’s cloudy and not just when you are on holiday
  3. No, we aren’t sun haters – it’s good for you! - but we do encourage our user to enjoy the sun in an intelligent way
  4. Even those with apparently normal skin still need to protect their faces
  5. We advise our users to apply sunscreen multiple times a day, every day, whatever the weather, whatever the location
  6. If you are planning on being outdoors for longer than 20 minutes, apply a minimum factor of SPF17 every two hours and in summer months a minimum factor of SPF30
  7. If you wish to ensure optimal protection, use a mineral makeup with SPF15 or above
