This is the first in a new series of blog posts turning the spotlight on CosMedix metabolic skin peels this one being the CosMedix Blueberry Smoothie. Blueberry Smoothie VS Microdermabrasion

A microdermabrasion facial uses either micro-crystals or a diamond tip to mechanically remove corneocytes from the upper layers of skin, the stratum corneum. Studies have been conducted for a number of years that show there are some immediate benefits. However, longer-term analysis reveals that there are unwanted side effects from repeatedly carrying out the procedure.  These include micro tears to the epidermis that can create a dry and sensitive skin.

Metabolic Peels Are More Sophisticated than Microdermabrasion

The CosMedix Blueberry Smoothie works differently by combining gentle mechanical exfoliation with purified acids that support the skins natural exfoliation process and boost natural moisture factor. Unlike microdermabrasion, this treatment also infuses the skin with additional antioxidants that nourish and protect the skin, providing lasting benefit by neutralising any free radicals.

What ingredients are in CosMedix Blueberry Smoothie?

The ‘peel’ aspect is achieved with 7% L-Lactic Acid, a Chirally Correct acid that is purified on a molecular level. L-Lactic Acid gently encourages exfoliation and boosts ceramide production in the skin, offering natural moisturising benefits.

The ‘scrub’ comes in the form of Jojoba beads, which are perfectly spherical and gently roll around the skin during massage to remove dead skin cells without scratching the skin, plus Blue Corn Meal for additional skin polishing effects.

Green Fact: The reason we use jojoba beads and blue corn meal is because they are biodegradable. Non-biodegradable materials like Polythene beads have been shown to pollute our seas and intoxicate our marine life.

Blueberry Smoothie also contains Blueberry Extract and D-Glucuronic Acid for enhanced antioxidant support during the treatment and providing an inner glow to the skin. The effects of which continue to work long after the treatment is over. By increasing the antioxidant content topically in the skin, we can neutralise the effects of environment damage caused by free radicals.

How often can I have this treatment?

Because Blueberry Smoothie is a superficial treatment, this can be given as often as once a week. Either as a stand-alone treatment or incorporated into a CosMedix Deluxe Med-Facial.

Does this treatment require any prep?

No, this is a treatment that can be performed without prep. As with all of our treatments, there is a post-peel treatment plan, however this will vary from client-to-client and will be discussed with your aesthetician.

Is there anyone who can’t have this treatment?

CosMedix Blueberry Smoothie is suitable for all skin types and conditions. The only people who couldn’t have this treatment are those currently taking Isotretinoin (or within last 6 months) and of course, anyone with an allergy to blueberries!
